Dayspring Orthodox Presbyterian Church is a ministry of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church. The OPC was founded in 1936 as a Presbyterian church that would faithfully preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Currently, there are 269 congregations, 58 mission works, and 494 ministers serving our 29,842 members throughout the United States and Canada.
The word “Orthodox” does not refer to any connection with the Greek or Russian Orthodox Churches. Rather, it comes from two words from the Greek language. The Greek word related to ortho means “straight” and the word related to dox means “thought”. The Orthodox Presbyterian Church has always put a high priority on trying to think “straightly” or rightly about God. Our ultimate authority in this task is the inspired scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
Born in 1936 out of the struggles between historic biblical Christianity and early 20th century theological liberalism (especially through the efforts of Dr. J. Gresham Machen, a professor at Princeton Seminary who left there to found Westminster Seminary in Philadelphia, and later the OPC itself), the Orthodox Presbyterian Church seeks to be faithful to the scriptures, the legacy of the Protestant Reformation, and the historic Presbyterian confessions — the Westminster Confession of Faith, and its Shorter and Larger Catechisms.
We are a theologically conservative, Calvinistic church. We seek to honor God as the sovereign Lord of the universe. We preach Christ as the Son of God, the only Savior, who died for sinners. We seek to live obedient and joyful Christian lives through the power of the Holy Spirit. We insist upon the absolute truth and authority of God’s word, the Bible, and we invite you to join us in our worship, work, and witness to the Glory of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
